Panic Away - Click Here!Panic attacks often seem to come on suddenly.  There are symptoms that start long before the actual attack does though.  If you learn the symptoms you increase your chances of being able to stop panic attacks from creeping into your life unexpectedly.  Here are ten signs that most people experience in some form in the time leading up to a panic attack:

1) Tightening of the chest:  People often think they are having a heart attack when this happens.  The stress they feel after they’ve been rushed to the hospital and observed can be overwhelming when the diagnosis comes back as panic.  Eventually, that will wear on a person’s emotions and cause a larger impact.

2) Feeling of despair:  When everything around you starts to seem more doomed than it should you are experiencing a classic symptom in the onset of panic. 

3) Increased heart rate:  We’ve all had the pounding in our chest when we got excited.  People who suffer from panic attacks can feel their heart pounding from the anxiety that is building within them about a situation.

4) Sweaty palms: Panic and anxiety make people tend to start sweating.  This comes from the increased heart rate and fluctuation in body temperature that occurs in moments of emotional distress.

5) You feel like you are going “crazy”:  You are most likely not going literally crazy, but knowing that something is happening that you cannot control is very frightening and often embarrassing.  Instead of worrying about yourself at that time you will tend to start worrying about what other people are thinking.

6) Isolation from others:  The fear of having a panic attack and other people seeing you out of control often lead to isolation for those who suffer from the attacks.  If you reflect back on previous attacks and what happened leading up to them I bet you’d find that you subconsciously started to separate from others so you would be alone.

7) Evident fear:  You may not know exactly what you fear exactly, but the fear is sweltering in you and waiting to be released.  It is an intuition that is not positive when you are suffering panic attacks.  When you are cured from panic attacks it becomes a trigger that allows you to take preventative action.

8) Upset stomach:  Emotions like nerves, fear, and anxiety are most always accompanied by an upset stomach.  If you know that you haven’t eaten anything out of the ordinary and are feeling unsettled mentally and physically you need to be aware.

9) Tingling limbs:  The rush of blood and change in blood pressure that start to happen when a panic attack sets in will make your fingers and toes have a tingling sensation.  It is very noticeable and you should address it immediately.

10) Perceptual distortions:  You start to shut down because you are trying to defend yourself against the panic attack.  This can cause perceptual distortions and almost a dreamlike state.  If you’ve ever fainted it is kind of like the feeling you get right before that happens.
